The crossroad sign and its variations mean ahead is a junction where the thicker line is the route with right of way. It is part of our range of road legal warning signs. This specific sign has 3 versions. The priority ahead sign uses the thicker arrow going forward, with another junction crossing through it. Priority turning right and left are shown by the arrow turning right or left at the intersection.

This sign can only be used on the priority route as the approaching arm’s thickness can’t be varied. This also means you should not attempt to rotate the sign to give a different message.

You can supplement this with a "Distance Ahead" plate to tell drivers when to expect to come to the junction. In the case where an approach does not have priority but a warning is needed, diagram 501 indicates a "Junction Ahead".
